Why Choose Stainless Steel Jewelry?

Benefits of Stainless Steel Jewelry

Simple Stainless Steel Arrowhead Necklace - $44.99

Benefits of Stainless Steel Jewelry

  • It looks like sterling silver but costs a lot less!
  • It does not tarnish
  • It is hypoallergenic (great if you have skin allergies to other metals)
  • It is very durable (hard to dent or scratch!)
  • It is resistance to corrosion/rust
  • It has a polished finish that is similar in appearance to sterling silver.

For all of the above reasons, it is no suprise that stainless steel jewelry is growing in popularity.  The challenge is that since it is such a hard metal, many jewelry designers shy away from using it.  I decided to take on that challenge incorporating stainless steel into many of my designs.  Here are just a few:

Stainless Steel Square Pendant Necklace - $44.99

Stainless Steel Simple Chainmaille Earrings - $34.99

Stainless Steel Rings with Customizable Center Color - $29.99

Have you tried stainless steel jewelry?  If so, please share your favorite finds with us in the comments below!

Creative Ways to Get in on the 2014 Spring/Summer Floral Fashion Trend

Floral prints were seen all over the runway in 2014 spring/summer designer collections from Christian Siriano to JCrew.  If you are like me, you may be a little timid to carry off this bold statement in your clothing.  So here are a few other ways you can stay on trend with these accessories.

JEWELRY

Flowers can be frilly but don't have to be. Look for pieces that go with your style whether you are a rocker or a romantic.

Right:  Stainless Steel Flower Necklace, Adjustable Flower Ring

LAPEL PINS

One overlooked accessory is the lapel pin. They are great worn on a blazer or sweater but you can use them in so many ways...to decorate a hat, a scarf, your purse, your shoes.  I've even used them as curtain tie backs.
Right:  Blue Flower Lapel Pin and Large Hot Pink Filigree Flower Pin

MAGNETS

Not just for your refrigerator!  They can be used to decorate metal boxes and lamp bases.  If you would like to get more creative, frame a metal sheet, hang on the wall and use magnets like knobs to hold your jewelry.  Decorative magnets are also a great way to spruce up your office.  Try posting on the front of shelves/cabinets to hold up schedules, pictures or paperwork.
Right:  Large Flower Magnet and Small Flower Magnet Set

Would love to hear your thoughts on this trend.  Will you embrace it?  If so how?  Please leave your comments below.

Looking for Jewelry Seen on The Vampire Diaries?

Kat Graham Wears Loralyn Designs Jewelry on The Vampire Diaries

Last night, Bonnie Bennett (aka Kat Graham) wore Loralyn Designs Black Iron Diamond Necklace on The Vampire Diaries - "Resident Evil" Season 5 Episode 18.  The unique diamond-shaped pendant is made from a combination of cast iron and stainless steel with a metallic resin center.

I designed it last year for a gifting to the wardrobe stylist of the show through The Artisan Group.  Although the gifting was not geared towards a specific character, I did have Bonnie in mind when creating this piece.  Powerful, strong and feminine.

This is the second necklace from Loralyn Designs that has been featured on the show.  Last year my Steel Celtic Cross Necklace was worn by Vampire Hunter Galen Vaughn, played by Charlie Bewley.

Another one of my designs will be on the show in a few weeks.  Stay tuned!

Pieces from other designers worn on Vampire Diaries episode 5x18 "Resident Evil":

Julie Ellyn Designs Dark Moon Necklace was worn by Caroline played by Candice Accola.

Chloe Alyson Botswana Agate and Silver Pave Tube Bead Bracelet was worn by Bonnie Bennett.

Amazing Metalwork by Monique Rancourt

I met Monique last year at the Paradise City Show in Marlborough, MA.  Her display was raw, industrial looking, and stood out from everyone else at the show.  From afar you saw raw thick dark pipes topped with fantastic natural shaped wood stained in a dark brownish red.   After standing in awe of the display itself, I went in for a closer look.  Wow!  Monique's jewelry was nothing short of amazing!  On top of the various wood surfaces were intricate necklaces, rings, bracelets and earrings.

I talked to Monique for a bit about her jewelry and techniques (wish I got a picture). She is so easy to talk to, and it is apparent from the start that she is very passionate about her craft.  In addition to her amazing jewelry, she also teaches classes on metalsmithing at MetalWerx in Waltham, MA.

Of course, I didn't leave empty handed.  Check out my new earrings!

You can check out a gallery of Monique's jewelry here along with a list of upcoming shows.
